KotorArt International Festival and the Don Branko Sbutega Foundation invite young musicians to apply for the competition for the project Cultural Intertwining: Strengthening Montenegrin-American Ties. The project aims to contribute to the promotion of culture and art and strengthen ties between Montenegro and the United States networking, encouraging peer cooperation, exchange and mobility of young musicians, composers and music professors from Montenegro and the USA.
Over the next year, four young musicians from Montenegro and the United States will have the opportunity for professional development through work with peers and mentors, eminent chamber music professors from Montenegro and Santa Barbara, USA, the opportunity to work closely with contemporary composers from Montenegro and USA on the preparation of new compositions; as well as to perform next year in Santa Barbara, USA and as part of the KotorArt International Festival.
Musicians aged 18 to 27, who play string instruments, ie violin, viola or cello, have the right to participate. To apply, it is necessary to send a biography and one or more videos of the performance to the e-mail address [email protected], no later than November 22. – stated from the PR service of KotorArt.
The project envisions composing four works for string quartet – two orders for new compositions inspired by Montenegrin and US heritage, and two artistic arrangements of klapa songs and jazz standards. Project activities include online discussions for performers, composers, music professors, musicologists and other interested public, during which they will talk about the importance of nurturing such practices, and all aspects of this process and why it is important for preserving and promoting cultural heritage and further development of musical art. The finale of the project, whose realization is planned for the summer of 2022, includes the presentation of new works, composers and performers at concerts in the United States and Montenegro, as part of the KotorArt Festival.
